Fabian Hurzeler is hopeful that Danny Welbeck will be fit for Brighton’s Premier League clash against Leicester City on Sunday.

Welbeck failed to make Brighton’s matchday squad for their 3-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Thursday evening.

Alex Iwobi gave Fulham an early lead in the fourth minute before Carlos Baleba’s excellent strike from the edge of the area levelled the score.

Fulham went ahead again through Matt O’Riley’s own goal with 11 minutes remaining and Iwobi then netted his second of the game to seal the win for Marco Silva’s side.

Brighton now travel to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester and Hurzeler says Welbeck is in contention to make a quick return.

‘It is a small issue that he [Welbeck] got after conceding a foul against Southampton,’ Hurzeler said on Thursday evening.

‘We have to take care of him and hopefully he will be back on Sunday.’

Welbeck has been in excellent form for Brighton this season with six goals in 13 Premier League appearances.

The defeat at Fulham leaves Brighton fifth in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Leicester, who sealed a 3-1 win over West Ham in Van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge on Tuesday night.
