Newcastle United have seen their star players linked with a move away for what feels like an age now.
Despite having ambitious backers in PIF, Newcastle are struggling to spend money it seems.
Indeed, the club are reportedly facing another quiet January transfer window unless player sales are made.
That, of course, is hugely frustrating. While it’s understandable that the Newcastle United owners might be reluctant to sell given any potential PSR breaches can result in points deductions, it doesn’t make Eddie Howe’s job any easier.
With the money seemingly tight, key players keep being linked away. Some of those are even said to have been unsettled at times this season.
Alexander Isak has been tipped for an exit at some point in 2025. Anthony Gordon may have signed a new contract since but there were suggestions earlier this summer that he had been tempted by a move to Liverpool.
Then, there’s Bruno Guimaraes.
The midfielder has been long been linked with a move away from St James’ Park but on Tyneside he remains.
Guimaraes was handed the team captaincy over the course of the summer but it seems that is not enough to stop the links away.

City are said to have drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements for Rodri after his long-term knee injury, who can then act as cover upon the Spaniard’s return.
The Newcastle star is said to feature on that list. Sources reportedly even suggested midfielder Matheus Nunes could have been included as a potential makeweight in any deal during the summer. The report adds to keep a particular eye on that link going forward.
Matheus Nunes has a big Sunderland connection amid links with Newcastle
Back in October, Guardiola hailed Portugal international Nunes for: “A specific quality. In transitions, he is as fast as Erling [Haaland]. When he runs for 30-40 metres, no one can stop him.
“He has a special quality that we don’t have. That’s why we need him and he can play in many roles.”
Interestingly, Nunes does already have a connection to the North East – albeit not one Newcastle fans will enjoy too much.
Upon joining City in 2023, the midfielder revealed his step father is a big Sunderland supporter!
“We were about four hours behind here in England, so in the weekend, every morning we would spend watching Sunderland on the TV,” he said (via the club’s official website).
“But it wasn’t only Sunderland, it would be all of the Premier League and the rest of the teams as well, so since I was a little kid, I have been watching Sunderland and the rest of the Premier League.”
