Barcelona yet to initiate talks with top attacking target – Romano

It is no secret that Barcelona are on the hunt for a new striker, as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Jonathan David has often come out as the main target for Barça, in their search for a new frontman. The Canadian international plies his trade for Lille, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

David’s situation has made him an appealing target for Barcelona, who are eyeing a Bosman move for the forward next summer.

Barcelona yet to initiate talks with David

However, despite all of Barcelona’s interest, the club are yet to initiate any discussion with Jonathan David regarding a transfer next summer.

This is according to the ever-so-reliable Fabrizio Romano, who suggests that there are no ongoing negotiations between the two parties.

Romano adds that Robert Lewandowski is likely to continue as Barcelona’s first-choice forward, for the time being.

This comes on the back of recent reports over Lewandowski’s future, which suggested that Barça have informed the Pole of their desire to renew his contract until 2026.

As for David, the Canadian continues to perform well in Ligue 1. He has already racked up 15 goals in all competitions this season and a total of 99 goals since joining Lille.

Barcelona, therefore, must soon take a call on David’s pursuit, especially knowing the fact that there won’t be any shortage of suitors in the market.

The Catalans, though, might have been set aback by David’s hefty salary demands. Whether or not the situation improves in the near term, remains to be seen.
