Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are reportedly in “constant contact” over a move for 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Jeremie Frimpong is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, and they are in regular contact regarding a move for the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back. The Dutch international is also a target for Manchester City and Real Madrid.
The rise and rise of Jeremie Frimpong
Jeremie Frimpong has gone from strength to strength since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021. The Dutchman did not take long to settle down at the Bundesliga club and has come leaps and bounds as he closes in on completing four years at BayArena.
The 23-year-old was instrumental in an unprecedented 2023/24 campaign for Bayer Leverkusen as Die Werkself won the Bundesliga title without losing a game while also winning the DFL Pokal. Frimpong has turned out over 150 times thus far for the German giants while chipping in with 27 goals and 39 assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
A man in demand
The Dutch international has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. The Reds are scouring the market for a right-back amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Trent Alexander-Arnold. While the Englishman remains a top player for Arne Slot, he has yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool amid his links with Real Madrid. So, Frimpong is a viable target for the Merseyside outfit.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Jeremie Frimpong is understandable. Kyle Walker is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. With Rico Lewis being the only other right-back, Manchester City should invest in a top-class right-back, with the Bayer Leverkusen star emerging as a viable target.
As for Real Madrid, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has been Los Blancos’ top target to bolster the right-back berth, they are keeping their options open. So, the 23-year-old Dutchman is an option worth considering for Real Madrid.
However, with Liverpool in “constant contact” regarding a move, Manchester City and Real Madrid must step up to secure Frimpong’s services. It will be interesting to see where the Dutch international lands if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen next year.
