“Absolute nonsense” – Journalist shuts down talk of Chelsea points deduction

One journalist has just come out this week and shut down any noise regarding a Chelsea points deduction on rules broken under the Roman Abramovich era.

The Blues are being investigated regarding some transfer moves they made under the last ownership. But the new owners self-reported all of the issues, and the investigation is still ongoing.

There’s been some talk of points deduction for Chelsea and maybe even a transfer ban and fines etc, but nothing is happening yet, and reporter Ben Jacobs has been keen to shut down the noise, for now at least.

Absolute nonsense

The charges are from the Abramovich era

Jacobs was speaking about it on an X space this week, and the quotes have been relayed by PYS on X.

Jacobs said:

“It’s absolute nonsense to be talking about potential points deductions happening immediately when no charges even exist yet as the Premier League are still investigating”

“This is not like Forest or Everton, which were charged as part of the current PSR cycle”

“Even if today Chelsea were charged, and we don’t know yet, there would have to be a hearing and it would drag on for a significant period of time”

“You are probably looking at a minimum of two years before anything is concluded if Chelsea are charged from the Abramovich era.”

“And if that hypothetical happens Clearlake-Boehly would fully cooperate as they did with UEFA, which can potentially lessen the severity of punishment”

“First, we have to see if Chelsea have been charged. Then we have to wait and see if it’s a hearing or a settlement, as they agreed with UEFA”.

“And then the whole process would need to run its course. But you can’t have a punishment for something you haven’t been even charged with!”

So there you have it! We just have to wait and see.
