Napoli director Giovanni Manna provided an update on the ongoing negotiations at Napoli before his team was eliminated by Lazio in the Coppa Italia. He spoke to SportMediaset.
“We’re in a work in progress because we changed a lot, including the coach. Antonio Conte wants a solid and long-term foundation to ensure lasting success.”
The exec recently met with the agent of Mathias Olivera, who might get a new contract soon.
“We routinely talk with the representatives of every player. It was a summit like many others. We discussed a few things. He’s having a good season, and we’re extremely happy with him. We’ll see.”
Manna confirmed the new position by Napoli about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s renewal.
“We convened and talked not too long ago. We don’t want to continue doing so because we’ll revisit it at the end of the season since he has two more years on his contract. He has to stay focused on the pitch. We wish to gratify him. We’re serene on this front too.”
Victor Osimhen has been linked with a January switch to PSG.
“It’s technically possible, but we haven’t heard from anybody about that.”
Napoli boss Conte defended his choice of fielding an entirely different XI to the same outlet (via SOSFanta).
“We’re not disappointed with who played but for bowing out. We have to be angered about it. In order to grow, I have to test things and give a chance to those who work hard every week. We’re sorry for the result, but we needed to rotate. We didn’t go on the pitch to lose. It was a precise choice.”
