As reported yesterday, Barcelona sporting director Deco met with Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah and his agents to explore the possibility of a transfer in the summer of 2025.
Tah is entering the final six months of his contract with the Bundesliga champions and plans to leave the club at the end of the season as a free agent.
The German international has been attracting strong interest from several clubs, including Bayern Munich, who have been chasing him since last summer.
Barcelona leading the race
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have made an initial proposal to sign Tah on a free transfer in the summer of 2025 during the meeting that took place yesterday.
In fact, the Italian journalist states that talks are already advanced between the two parties and as such, the Blaugrana are now ahead of Bayern Munich in the race to sign Tah.

There are some details to be ironed out in the negotiations but both Barça and the defender’s camp left the meeting from yesterday with positive feelings.
Tah has been a player that Hansi Flick and Barça have targeted since last summer. The 28-year-old has been a key part of Xabi Alonso’s successful Leverkusen team and can be a fine addition to the Catalans’ ranks.
However, it must be noted that Barcelona already have plenty of options in central defence in Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo, Inigo Martinez, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, and the young Sergi Dominguez.
As such, if Tah were to arrive in the summer, there could be a possible departure from the centre-back department at the Catalan outfit.
Christensen’s name has been linked with a departure, although he has ruled out an exit, while Eric Garcia has not seen enough minutes this season and could be a candidate for sale.
Either way, Barcelona seem to be very well placed to sign Tah on a Bosman deal come summer of 2025.
