Postecoglou bemoans lack of control as Tottenham throw away momentum vs Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Bournemouth as Andoni Iraola’s side claimed yet another big Premier League scalp at the Vitality Stadium this season.

Dean Huijsen scored a towering first-half header for his first Premier League goal, exploiting Spurs’ weaknesses from set-plays. It could have been worse for the Lilywhites as the Cherries missed several gilt-edged chances in front of goal. Fraser Forster also made some vital saves in the second half to keep the scoreline respectable.

Ange Postecoglou was missing several key players due to injuries and suspension, however, his team looked way off the pace once again as pressure mounted on him further. Tottenham were praised for smashing Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium only a couple of weeks ago, however, they are yet to seal a victory across all competitions since having drawn with AS Roma and Fulham and now defeated at Bournemouth.

Pressure has piled on Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou after a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Addressing the media after the game at the South Coast, Ange Postecoglou expressed his disappointment for getting beaten by the Cherries despite starting the game well.

“Very disappointing. We started the game well. Started the game the way we wanted to and started controlling it but we give away a poor goal, a really poor goal. Again. That allows the opposition to, and it is a difficult place to come to anyways, sit back and play the football they want. To counter-attack and we have to open up. It is disappointing and not good enough. It is not something that is a one off. We have done that now three or four times and paid a price for it,” Postecoglou was quoted by Football London.

Dominic Solanke recovered from a bout of illness and returned to the starting XI against his former employers but failed to inspire Spurs on an underwhelming night under the lights at the Vitality Stadium. With a 1-0 win, Iraola’s men leapfrogged Tottenham in the table with three points staying on the south coast which sums up a poor start to the season for Big Ange’s side.

Owing to several injury problems to key players such as Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Richarlison, and a lengthy suspension to Rodrigo Bentancur, the North Londoners’ squad are currently stretched at this moment. Injury issues piled up on the night when Ben Davies was forced off in the second half with a hamstring injury.

Dominic Solanke struggled to make an impact against his former club Bournemouth on Friday.

Regardless, you expect Big Ange’s side to offer more threat going forward and create more chances in the final third. But it didn’t happen as Tottenham looked devoid of ideas and energy after a certain point in the second half.
