The speculation surrounding Gary O’Neil’s future has been rife following Wolves latest humiliation at the hands of Everton.
Despite conceding four goals in a game for the second match running and 36 across the campaign, Gary O’Neil is somehow hanging onto his Wolves job by a thread.
The Wanderers produced a dreadful performance at Goodison Park, as Everton thrashed Wolves 4-0, and fans were adamant O’Neil should be sacked.
Remarkably, it’s been claimed that O’Neil will take charge of the West Ham game, with supporters outraged that the club have kept him in the job.
Ahead of the clash against the Hammers on Monday night, where Julen Lopetegui is also under immense pressure, the Wolves boss took his press conference on Thursday and now Paul Merson has issued his prediction.

Paul Merson drops Gary O’Neil sack claim in West Ham vs Wolves prediction
It’s a clash between two managers on the verge of being axed, and whoever loses the game will surely be shown the exit door.
O’Neil is fortunate he’s been given the West Ham match, but concerning his time at Molineux, that has to be his final saloon if his side gets humiliated once more.
Captain Mario Lemina defended O’Neil after the defeat on Wednesday, claiming that the players have to usher some of the blame, and Merson thinks it’s inevitable the 41-year-old gets sacked.

Predicting the Hammers to win 2-0, Merson wrote in his Sportskeeda column: “This is a massive game for both managers. Julen Lopetegui and Gary O’Neill are under immense pressure. How can Wolves win 4-1 at Fulham, and then concede four goals in back-to-back defeats to Bournemouth and Everton? That’s just unbelievable.
“Whoever loses this game, will be under severe pressure from the fans. The sack is inevitable if you don’t have fans on your side. After Wolves’ recent results, I just can’t back them here.
“They let Everton score four goals in a game, I thought Everton would never score four in total from now until Christmas!”
Who could replace O’Neil at Wolves?
The Old Gold are already lining up a replacement for O’Neil.
Wolves held talks with Graham Potter last month, and he’s their number-one target to replace the Englishman should he get sacked.
A deal to land the former Chelsea boss, however, looks difficult to achieve, with Potter not sold by Wolves sell-to-buy model.
David Moyes is another on their radar, although like Potter, the Scotsman doesn’t fancy working under the Fosun ownership – and who could blame him?
It will be interesting to see who the Wanderers go for to replace O’Neil, as his sacking now remains a case of when rather than if.
