Everton may not be able to refuse a £100million offer for Jarrad Branthwaite, according to Paul Gascoigne.

The 22-year-old was excellent in the 4-0 victory against Wolves (4 December) and has been the Blues standout player over the past 18 months.

The Toffees rejected two bids from Manchester United in the summer transfer window, the highest of which was reportedly £45m plus add-ons.

In an interview with the Liverpool Echo [6 December], the former Everton man believes that the club will struggle to reject a nine-figure offer, saying: “The problem is, if Everton haven’t got money, if someone comes in and offers them £100m, Everton’s not going to turn it down.

“That’s the problem these teams have with quality players, it’s keeping a hold of them, because you’ve got no chance, with the money going on and if a player’s got a year left, and someone’s offering them £30,000 or £250,000 a week, you’re going for the £250,000.”

£100m is too good for Everton toturn down

A fee of £100m for one player is far too good for a club in the Toffees financial position to turn down.

That money could allow the Blues to reinvest in two or three quality players to push the club out of another relegation struggle.

The victory over Wolves was huge. It gave Sean Dyche’s side a five-point buffer from the drop zone ahead of a brutal run of fixtures over the festive period.

The Blues will face Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in successive weeks, in a period which will be crucial in their survival battle.

If they could get £100m in January, the player would be a huge loss but the potential impact of new players on the squad could be massive.

It remains to be seen whether the Blues can get such a fee for Branthwaite, if they cannot, they should keep him.
