Newcastle in talks to sell one player – Magpies teammate doesn’t want to leave due to fans

Kieran Trippier has lost prominence at Newcastle United, with 349 minutes from seven games this season. The right-back has played 11 minutes for the Premier League side since October’s international break.

Two months ago, we covered claims from Italy which stated AC Milan could sign him for ‘handful of millions’ in the winter market.

Fast forward to December and Pianeta Milan now talk about the Serie A side’s interest in the Newcastle player.

They say ‘it’s true’ that the Rossoneri ‘held transfer talks recently’ with the Magpies for the 34-year-old. He could replace Davide Calabria, who has captained Milan when he has started matches this season.

Calabria’s deal expires at the end of this season while Trippier has over 18 months left on his Newcastle contract.

The Englishman’s Newcastle teammate, Sandro Tonali, has been linked with a move back to the San Siro, but the report states his return is ‘almost impossible as of today’.

Tonali served a 10-month ban and returned to the pitch at the start of this season. He is pleased with the ‘affection’ shown by the Newcastle fans during that period. This, coupled with his desire to continue in the Premier League makes his return to Milan difficult.

In addition to this, the 24-year-old midfielder’s contract lasts until 2028 and earns €7m net plus bonuses per year. These figures are very high for the Italian club.

Tonali’s desire to continue in England and the economics of the operation makes it hard for Milan to bring him back. That may not be the case with Trippier though.
