David Sullivan confidant shares new West Ham board meeting decision twist

David Sullivan led a big board meeting at West Ham United on Thursday afternoon.

It was claimed that David Sullivan decided to give West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui one more chance – a decision that could see us miss out on key managerial targets like Sergio Conceicao.

The Hammers have begun the 2024/25 campaign in woeful fashion.

We are currently sitting in 14th spot in the Premier League table, having taken just 15 points from our opening 14 games.

The football on display has been turgid and very tough to watch.

Lopetegui has failed to bring a more attractive playing style to the London Stadium, but the results have been equally as poor as the performances.

It’s surely only a matter of time before the 58-year-old loses his job.

A new claim from a club insider on Thursday night was very interesting indeed.

West Ham board meeting twist after David Sullivan confidant claim

Things may well not be all as they seem.

It’s clear for the fans to see that Lopetegui is not the man we need to take us to another level.

However, Sullivan obviously doesn’t want to pull the trigger and hand the Spaniard his P-45 just yet.

What are other members of the board thinking though?

Well, we now have our answer…

West Ham insider Sean Whetstone has made a brand new claim about the outcome of the board meeting on Thursday.

Whetstone took to his X account to spill the beans:

That really does surprise me, because I was of the belief that Sullivan was Lopetegui’s only real ally on the board.

It seems like Daniel Kretinsky, Vanessa Gold, Tripp Smith and others are in full support of the Spaniard though.

And that’s hugely concerning.

I just don’t understand the decision not to sack him. What happens if we beat Wolves but then lose to Bournemouth?

Does Lopetegui then get the Brighton game to save his job again? All the while, there’s a good chance we could miss out on our key targets, with other Premier League clubs in the hunt for a managerial change.

The Hammers board should have been ruthless and moved Julen Lopetegui on. He has clearly not got what it takes to succeed at the London Stadium, and keeping him at the club will just prolong our misery.

The outcome of the board meeting was not what the West Ham fans were hoping for, and the decision from David Sullivan to keep Lopetegui means that it could turn toxic at the London Stadium on Monday night now.
