Ashleigh Neville is eyeing a strong finish to the calendar year, starting with this weekend’s fixture at home to Everton.
Sunday’s return to Barclays Women’s Super League action is the first of our final three games left in 2024, with trips to Crystal Palace in the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday evening before travelling down to the south coast to face Brighton & Hove Albion the following Saturday.
First up though is the Toffees at Brisbane Road and Brian Sørensen’s side will travel to the capital on the back of picking up their first win in the WSL this campaign – a famous victory over their local rivals Liverpool in the final Women's Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
> I have been at the Club for a long time and they’re actually a really good team, we don’t necessarily struggle against them but they’re always tight games.
In our 10 previous meetings with Everton in the top flight, we have drawn on four occasions – with two of them coming in last season’s contests – and the experienced defender is expecting another tough challenge this weekend.
“When we come up against Everton, people might think we should win but I have been at the Club for a long time and they’re actually a really good team, we don’t necessarily struggle against them but they’re always tight games,” she said.
“It’s going to be a tough game at the weekend and we need to turn up for it, but the girls are ready to go and hopefully it will be an exciting game for the fans.
“Three points is massive for us to climb the table just before Christmas, it will definitely put us in a good stead to push upwards and close that gap. When we’re on it on the day we can beat anyone, so we just need to bring that on Sunday.”

Prior to the November international break, Eveliina Summanen’s 40-yard strike, which won our Goal of the Month competition, recorded a 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Women’s League Cup and Ashleigh is hoping to use that as a platform for the final week of 2024.

“We had a tough run of games but, then, winning against West Ham was massive and then beating Villa, although it was a Cup game, it was a must-win to build confidence ahead of the international break,” she added.
“It was amazing for everyone, even for me sitting on the bench, seeing players going out there and giving their all and coming away with the win, three points and a clean sheet was massive for us.”
