International break was useful to reflect on positives - Taylor

Gareth Taylor says the international break was a useful opportunity to look back on the opening months of the season.

City have made an excellent start to the campaign with just one defeat and qualification for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals secured with four wins out of four.

However, Chelsea’s win in our last Women’s Super League outing means we are second with the West London side maintaining a 100% record so far.

Injuries have impacted in recent weeks with Vivianne Miedema, Lauren Hemp, Laia Aleixandri and Chloe Kelly unavailable in recent weeks.

After a two-week break when many of the squad joined up with their national teams, we’re back in action on Sunday against Leicester City at the WSL at 13:00 (UK).

Taylor used it to reflect on the start to the season and what has gone well.

“As coaching staff, we get an opportunity to get a breather and reflect on the first third of the season,” he said in his pre-match news conference.

“Obviously lots of positive things to discuss and things we want to implement in the next phase.

“It was a different type of break because it feels like Hammarby was a long time ago with that game on a Thursday and then nothing at the weekend but it allowed even international players two or three days to recover and shut down mentally.

“That was a nice experience, especially for the players who are away and training every day. It’s very difficult. It was nice to give them free time.

“Looking forward to the whole group being back together today and preparing for the game at the weekend.”
