Newcastle United fans could not believe what they were watching against Liverpool, and neither could Eddie Howe.
His players bounced back in emphatic fashion after two disappointing displays, as Newcastle drew 3-3 with Liverpool.
Newcastle should have beaten Liverpool, in truth, but will be happy with a point. It was more about the performance, as the Magpies showed real fight and creative endeavour after some limp performances.
There were moments of magic from the likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, but it was almost all for nothing as Liverpool made it 3-2 in the 83rd minute.
Fortunately for Newcastle United, there was one more twist.

Eddie Howe amazed as Fabian Schar bails Newcastle out against Liverpool
That came courtesy of Fabian Schar, who got on the end of Bruno’s deep free-kick to drag Newcastle back level.
It was a staggering goal from a ridiculous angle, and Eddie Howe has admitted during his pre-match press conference that he was shocked to see Schar find the net.
“Fabian has got those midfield qualities at centre-back, he has that creative eye,” he said.

“That is so important in our build-up phase. He used the ball well against Liverpool. His goal is rounding everything up, how he scored from that angle, great goal.
“He has that technical ability to adapt, and he’s scored some good goals for us.”

Unique Fabian Schar continues to shine for Newcastle United
When that cross from Bruno went in, I gave up hope of an equaliser. It was high and loopy, and looked destined to end in Liverpool claiming possession.
Yet an error by Caoimhin Kelleher and a lunge by Fabian Schar drew Newcastle level out of nowhere. After the game, Schar admitted he was not even trying to score.
Fortunately, it went in, as Schar capped off another impressive performance with a crucial goal.
As Howe says, the 32-year-old continues to be a real creative outlet for the Magpies. His passing range is such a dangerous weapon, with Howe having the luxury of boasting a centre-back who has the qualities of a midfielder.
It is what makes the £3million man so unique, and a key reason why Newcastle must extend Schar’s contract.
His current deal expires in the summer, and Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle may need to offer Schar a multi-year deal to keep him at St James’ Park.
