Portsmouth boss Josh Mousinho says he expects West Ham loanee Freddie Potts to remain with the club until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old arrived at the Championship side at the start of the 2024/25 campaign on a season-long loan deal.
Portsmouth newspaper The News hinted that the Hammers do have a recall option that would allow them to him back to the club, although it seems as though all parties are happy with how the spell is going.
As such Pompey boss Mousinho is expecting him to stay put, saying in quotes reported by The News (5 December): “I expect that to be the case [that Potts will stay]. I’ve heard nothing to the contrary, so we’ll have Freddie for the season.”
Championship experience the best thing for West Ham and Freddie Potts
Although Potts is at a side sat at the bottom of the Championship and the Hammers may have preferred him to be in an environment where he is winning more frequently, this is still a great experience for the youngster that will serve him well.

Although Julen Lopetegui’s side are struggling in the Premier Leauge this season, it’s not a young player who will be able to make a difference at the London Stadium this year and therefore, it’s no surprise that all parties are happy for this loan deal to run through until the end of the season.
The managerial situation at West Ham is somewhat uncertain at the moment with plenty of pressure on the current manager’s shoulders but the potential of a new face soon coming into the club should push Potts on further to impress on his spell away in the hope that he can catch the eye of his parent club too.
In other West Ham news, another Irons loanee could be set for an early return to the London Stadium after failing to impress at his new club.
