Manchester United are not ready to give up on their pursuit of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.
United had reportedly suffered a setback in the race to sign the Canadian star after it was revealed that he was close to signing a new deal with the Bavarians.
Davies’ contract with Bayern Munich comes to an end next summer and he is free to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January.
Journalist Christian Falk has now revealed that United have asked for a meeting with Davies and his agent in January.
He is currently valued at £42 million but the Old Trafford club do not have to worry about that as they can sign him for free next summer.
The Red Devils are in the market for a new left-back following the demand of manager Ruben Amorim to get one.
Tyrrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot are the current options for that position, but Amorim has demanded an upgrade.
United’s dream solution for the position is Davies, and the club will have to persuade him to join them ahead of other suitors.
Described as world-class, the 24-year-old is also on the radar of Real Madrid. The Los Blancos attempted to sign him last summer but failed.
Bayern Munich are aware of interest from other clubs and want to retain his services, but they are not ready to meet his salary demands.
Amorim will love working with Davies
Davies is regarded as one of the best left-backs in Europe, and it is no surprise that United want him.
He has played mostly as a left-back in his career but can equally play as a wing-back as he has shown over the years.
The Canada international has played 22 times in his career and registered four goals and four assists while doing so.
He has the blistering pace and skills to play in Amorim 3-4-2-1, and the Portuguese tactician will love working with him.
