'I'm working on it': Chelsea star Cole Palmer shares the area of his game he's trying to improve

Cole Palmer has been back in the goals in the last week as this remarkable tale at Chelsea goes on.

Blues attacker Cole Palmer, 22, continues to be the shining light in the Chelsea squad on a consistent basis.

Palmer has scored in back-to-back Premier League victories over Southampton and Aston Villa recently, which has helped lift his side to second in the division table. In 14 league matches this season, he’s now scored nine goals and created six assists.

The England international is exciting supporters every time he steps on the football pitch. Rio Ferdinand admits Chelsea’s Palmer always amazes him whenever he watches him play.

Palmer, who’s still such a young player, has admitted that he’s been working on improving his weaker foot. He’s got a wand of a left foot that has caused so much damage since he joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, but it’s encouraging that he’s striving for even better by training his right foot.

When asked about his right foot being a weakness in his game, Palmer told the Men In Blazers YouTube channel: “I’m working on it. It’s getting better. If anyone wants to show me on my right, feel free.”

Palmer’s scored 34 goals in 61 games across all competitions as a Chelsea player. Interestingly, Transfermarkt data records that only four of those goals have been with his weaker right foot.

Enzo Maresca says everyone at Man City knew of Palmer’s ability, but it’s the move to West London that has enabled him to become a key starter at a Premier League club and fulfil his potential. It’s a wild thought that he could still get so much better in the years to come, too.

The exciting thing is that he’s got the mentality as well as the talent to reach the very top.

According to his trainer, Palmer was desperate to start working immediately after Euro 2024 because he was hungry for a big second season at Chelsea. So far, he’s following up his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge with another magical year.

Cole Palmer in Premier League golden boot race

Palmer netted 22 Premier League goals last year during a remarkable 2023/24 campaign, but he lost out in the golden boot race to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (27).

There’s currently a fascinating battle going on this season for the league’s top scorer:

Player Club Goals

Mohamed Salah Liverpool 13

Erling Haaland Manchester City 12

Cole Palmer Chelsea 9

Chris Wood Nottingham Forest 9

Nicolas Jackson Chelsea 8

Yoane Wissa Brentford 8

Bryan Mbeumo Brentford 8

Premier League top scorers so far in the 2024/25 season

Palmer has shown in the past he’s capable of entering a purple patch in front of goal, so let’s hope the festive schedule is a productive one for him and Chelsea.
