Jose Mourinho has taken umbrage with what Pep Guardiola said about the number of titles he won in comparison with the Manchester City boss.
Guardiola and Man City stopped the rot on Wednesday when they claimed a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium. It ended a run of four straight defeats in the Premier League and seven games without a win in all competitions.
Guardiola had been subject to taunts from the Liverpool fans after the 2-0 loss at Anfield on Sunday that he was "getting sacked in the morning". The Spaniard responded by showing six fingers to the Reds faithful - one for every Premier League title he has won.
It gave off proper Mourinho vibes, with the Portuguese doing so twice while manager of Manchester United, showing three fingers for the Premier League titles he had won to journalists during a press conference when he demanded more respect and then doing the same to the Chelsea fans who goaded him during a match before he was sacked.
Guardiola was asked after the Liverpool game if he felt he could suffer the same fate as Mourinho. He responded: "I hope not in my case. He won three, I won six, but we are the same like that.
"We are together in those situations. To make our fans know that we are much, much better than the people that sing that [Liverpool fans singing sacked in the morning].
"It [the gesture] was just to make our fans feel that what we have done is extraordinary."
Mourinho was not happy with that remark. He hit back with a jibe at Man City's continuing legal battle against 115 Financial Fair Play charges.
He said: "Guardiola said something to me yesterday. He won six trophies and I won three, but I won fairly and cleanly.
"If I lost, I want to congratulate my opponent because he was better than me. I don’t want to win by dealing with 150 (sic) lawsuits."
