Arsenal will face Manchester United on Sunday, January 12 in the third round of the FA Cup at 3pm and the game will be broadcast on BBC One. The Gunners were drawn against Ruben Amorim’s side in the days building up to their 2-0 win in the league over the Red Devils on Wednesday.
It will be the third season in a row that the Gunners face one of the ‘Big Six’ in the opening two rounds of their involvement in the competiton. Mikel Arteta appeared pleased simply that the game would be played at the Emirates Stadium.
“That’s the thing about draws, you can get anybody,” he said. “We play at home, it’s going to be a big match again and it’s a little bit of the story of the last few seasons that in the third or fourth round we are playing big opponents but we want to do what we have done historically at this club and in the end, you have to beat the big teams to win it. It is what it is. We are excited.”
The match falls for Arsenal falls between some tough games. After the visit of United, Arsenal will host Spurs in midweek before then having Unai Emery and Aston Villa arrive in North London with these three games all being played within just seven days.
Four days later Arsenal host another game but this time in the Champions League with Dinamo Zagreb coming to town. Then finally a trip away from the capital as Arsenal go to Wolves before then a flight to Catalunya to play Girona in their final match of the European league phase hoping for a top eight finish.
