Leeds United are keen to finalise a permanent exit deal with Everton for Jack Harrison with the January transfer window approaching, according to Graeme Bailey.

After an initial successful loan period with the Toffees last season, the 28-year-old rejoined the Premier League side for the current campaign.

However, chances have been more limited for the winger in a struggling Blues side this year as he has only started half of the games he has played.

Nevertheless, Harrison himself is keen on making the move permanent too although GRV journalist Bailey feels it could be a complicated deal to sort as he told LeedsUnited.News: “I think Leeds would like him to go permanently. I think Leeds are hoping that because Everton have two domestic loans which obviously means they can’t do another. Are Everton looking? If they desperately need to do one, are Leeds going to take advantage by turning it into a permanent deal?

“I don’t think Harrison is desperate to come back to Leeds at any point. I think it’s something that is under consideration by Everton, but they are going to change managers, so I think they might try and not do it, just for the sake of building a squad that they might have to wait for the summer for a new manager.

“It’s a complicated one, but I think Harrison would quite like to do it. But he’s not playing every week at the moment. I don’t think that particularly bodes well for Leeds in this regard. I think they’d like to sign it off permanently. Obviously they’re saving a lot on his wages.

“He hasn’t started their last four games. Lindstrom’s playing quite well now. It’s an interesting one. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see him back in white next season. But the likelihood is that by January they might be changing manager then, so it’s a bit of a tough call.

“We’ll see what happens when the takeover gets rubber-stamped and no disrespect to Harrison, but they might be looking at bigger names going forward.”

Jack Harrison departure would be a relief for Leeds United

There is no place for the winger in the Leeds United squad anymore and as the Whites set their focus on promotion in the second half of the season it would be good for them to sort out Harrison’s future as soon as possible with no doubt that it lies away from Elland Road.

However, as Bailey alluded to, it could be the Toffees who make it difficult for this one to go through. Despite impressing in blue last season, the 28-year-old has struggled to have a similar impact and hasn’t got a single goal or assist under his belt yet during this campaign.

Elland Road Leeds United

Leeds United are planning on redeveloping Elland Road.

With the takeover at Goodison Park soon expected to go through and question marks surrounding the future of Sean Dyche, the Toffees may be keen to hold off making any long-term decisions on players knowing they have the Leeds man until the end of the season anyway.

The saving grace for the West Yorkshire outfit is that the player’s contract runs until 2027 meaning if a deal cannot be reached with the loanee’s current club, they still have the opportunity to make money on him.
