Newcastle United will play Bromley in the FA Cup third round
Newcastle United's FA Cup third-round tie against League Two Bromley is NOT among the initial set of fixtures scheduled for live TV broadcast. The Magpies are looking to clinch their first domestic silverware since 1955, and will be firm favourites to reach round four after Monday night's draw.
However, the game as the potential to be a cup upset, with Andy Woodman's Bromley looking to pull off a shock giantkilling act. As such, it was anticipated that the TV cameras would be heading to St James' Park early next year, but the game has not so far been selected for live coverage.
Six ties have been selected across the BBC and ITV, but there is still a chance United could be selected, with the FA confirming that 'further broadcast selections and the full Emirates FA Cup third round schedule will be announced as soon as possible'.
The all-Premier League ties or Arsenal vs Manchester and Aston Villa vs West Ham have been selected, with eyebrows raised over the Villa Park clash. Tottenham's visit to Tamworth will be shown on ITV as will Accrington Stanley's game against Liverpool at Anfield.
Manchester City vs Salford City will be broadcast live, with Millwall hosting non-league Dagenham and Redbridge on Monday, January 14 in front of the cameras.
Former United goalkeeper coach Woodman is relishing a return to St James' Park with Bromley, and has previously spoken with great fondness about his time at the club. Speaking in 2021, he said: “I look at my time at Newcastle as probably the greatest time in my footballing career. Not just because of the size of Newcastle. It was actually the most enjoyable time, because we were very successful.
"I keep saying this, and it almost goes under the radar. We did get into Europe. People kind of don’t remember that. I remember that really fondly. My lifestyle up there was the best it’s ever been for me and my family. We loved Newcastle. We loved the place, we loved the people."
