Graham Potter has not turned down a short-term contract offer at West Ham United despite recent rumours, according to Sean Whetstone.
The reports of a short-term contract emerged on Thursday with a six-month deal for the Englishman mooted [The Telegraph, 5 December].
Potter is one of the many names to have been linked with taking over the Hammers’ hot seat recently with reliable Hammers source Whetstone reporting via his personal X account (6 December) that there has been “dialogue” between the two parties.
The report also adds that Julen Lopetegui has been given West Ham’s game against Wolves to prove his worth with the board agreeing that they’d keep him in charge for Monday’s clash.
“Reports that Graham Potter turned down a short-term contract yesterday to manage West Ham which gave Julen Lopetegui a stay of execution have been flatly denied by a club insider this morning,” he wrote.

“While there has been dialogue with Potter’s people it appears to be an early stage and not at a point where a short-term offer has been made to him or anyone else at this stage.
“Potter is thought to be one of many coaches approached through intermediaries about their availability and willingness to take the role should Lopetegui be relieved of his West Ham duties.
“Yesterday the West Ham board shareholders met virtually via Zoom and unanimously agreed to leave Lopetegui in charge for Monday night’s game against Wolves.”
Graham Potter could be the answer West Ham have been looking for
Since the start of the season, questions have been asked about whether Lopetegui is the right man to take the Hammers to where they want to be.
There have, of course, been times of elation within the Hammers’ camp this season such as their victory against Manchester United, an odd three points here and there isn’t exactly ideal for a team that wants to get into the European places.
Potters’ last stint in the Premier League with Chelsea didn’t quite go to plan but during his time with Brighton, he went beyond expectations which is shown by the fact he got offered a job by the Blues.
Potter’s style of play is exactly what David Sullivan should have been looking for in a manager during the summer due to the quality of the attackers within their ranks.
Only time will tell whether the Englishman will get the job but on paper, he looks to be one of the best options available to them.
In other West Ham news, Erik ten Hag has been named as the search for Julen Lopetegui’s successor is in full swing.
