Ben Foster has described Dwight McNeil’s free-kick delivery as scary after Everton scored from three of his set-pieces against Wolves on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old didn’t register an assist at Goodison on 4 December but had a telling impact on the 4-0 win from dead balls.

This saw the Toffees net four times with set-pieces causing havoc for Gary O’Neil’s side and the winger delivering from set-pieces for three of them.

This impressed ex-England international coach Dave Watson on the Football Fill-In (6 December), who said: “Every time they got a set piece, it looked like it’s going to go in.”

Foster quickly replied: “In fairness, Dwight McNeil’s delivery is ridiculous. It is scary, as a goalkeeper I’d be watching Dwight McNeil over the ball and be worrying.”

Sean Dyche got the win that he needed on Merseyside against a rival in and around the bottom end of the Premier League.

This has helped to ease some pressure on the 53-year-old manager who is looking ahead to a derby clash against Liverpool on Saturday (7 December).

The ex-Burnley boss has to give plenty of credit to McNeil whose impact has ultimately helped him keep his job after a run of five games without a win.

Without his deadball ability, it could have proved to be a different result for Dyche’s side which may have been damaging to the manager’s future.

The clash against Wolves represented a must-win for the Toffees and the winger delivered the goods which helped the home side get back on the right track.

Looking ahead to the Merseyside Derby, the ex-England Under-21 international has to keep up his form from free-kicks if his side are to take any points from their local rivals.
