Barcelona 'all in' on summer free transfer after agent meeting

Barcelona are set to go "all in" in pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah after a meeting with the Germany international and his agent, reports have revealed.

Despite optimism that they will soon be back in a strong financial position, Barcelona remain keen to take advantage of potential free transfers and 28-year-old Tah is among the most valuable players approaching the end of their contracts.

Tah has already confirmed he will not sign an extension with Leverkusen and was keen to join Bayern Munich during the summer, only for Leverkusen to refuse to do business and instead allow him to depart on a free in 2025.

As first revealed by Jijantes, and later backed up by a number of sources, Barcelona sporting director Deco met with Tah and his agent in Leverkusen on Thursday to discuss a summer switch to Camp Nou, and all parties left feeling positive about an agreement.

Sky Germany state Barca will now go "all in" on Tah, who is represented by the same agent as manager Hansi Flick, although Bayern are believed to retain their interest in the Germany international.

Barca are not expected to make any new signings in January and instead plan to use their newfound spending power to get their current affairs in order. Dani Olmo and Pau Victor will both need registering, while Pedri and Gavi also require new contracts formalising with La Liga.

Club officials hope to be able to make a splash in the summer transfer window, with Tah one of a number of targets under consideration.
