Liverpool have moved ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal in their pursuit of 28-year-old Bundesliga forward Leroy Sane. The German winger notably broke into the first team at Schalke 04, but he garnered Premier League experience with his move to Manchester City in 2016.
After spending four years at the Etihad, he decided to leave for Bayern Munich in 2024, and it seems like a return to England could be on the cards. As per a report from Spanish media outlet fichajes.net (via The Hard Tackle), Liverpool have set their sights on Leroy Sane.
His contract with Bayern will expire in the summer of 2025 if he does not agree to a new deal with the Bavarian giants. It is uncertain if they will renew his contract, especially as he has hardly impressed this season, with just three goals in 15 games.
Liverpool are leading the race to sign Sane, and this can be connected to the uncertain future around Mohamed Salah. The Reds can extend the Egyptian legend's contract, but they will still need a replacement for the 32-year-old in the future.
This will be a cause for concern for Manchester United and Arsenal, who have both been monitoring the winger's situation at Bayern Munich (via Eurosport). With Sane struggling for game time in Bavaria, a move to Manchester United under Ruben Amorim could see him pick up a guaranteed starting spot.
Arsenal, on the other hand, will offer Sane a chance to chase after trophies under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners want to sign firepower, and Sane could potentially find his Premier League form with them - 39 goals and 43 assists in 90 games for City.
By January, the 28-year-old will be allowed to discuss his future and contract options with other clubs outside Bayern Munich.
Arsenal and Liverpool battle for Premier League glory, as Manchester United seek route out of midtable obscurity
Matchday 15 of the Premier League will take off this weekend (December 7), with Liverpool sitting at the very top, seven points ahead of second-placed Chelsea. A loss in their next game against Everton at Goodison Park will not affect their position, but they will want to consolidate with a win and increase the points gap.
Arsenal are in third place, and they know a strong performance against Fulham on December 8 at Craven Cottage could take them ahead of Chelsea. They are notably on the same 28 points with the Blues, who are ahead on goal difference.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are struggling to overcome their midtable problems. They went on a run of four league games without a loss, but a 2-0 loss to the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium dented their progress. They face Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on December 7, and they will hope to clinch all three points.
