Coach says‘excellent’ Premier League player who left Chelsea in 2022 ‘wasn’t ready’ to play for Blues

Chelsea have not been shy to add a vast amount of players to their ranks since the new owners have taken over at the club.

While a plethora of players have come, and in some cases gone, for the first team, a number of additions have been made with an eye to the future.

There is real excitement at Chelsea about the signing of Estevao Willian, with the attacker set to join the club at the end of this season.

The Blues have also looked closer to home when it comes to bringing in the next big talent, and may well have been onto something when they secured the services of Tyler Dibling from Southampton.

Tyler Dibling wasn’t ready to play for Chelsea

Dibling joined the Blues in the summer of 2022, however rejoined the Saints just months later after it was clear it was not the place for him to be.

Dibling’s former coach at Southampton, David Horseman, has claimed that he perhaps wasn’t ready as a person to make it in the demanding Chelsea academy system.

He said to The Athletic: “You have international after international from the first team down to the under-15s at Chelsea and it is a ruthless environment. Tyler wasn’t ready for it.

“They treat the players properly there, but if you aren’t producing, you aren’t playing. It’s ruthless. It just wasn’t the right time for Tyler, and that is not down to how they would have treated him or his ability. It’s a different set of kids and the culture is different.”

Southampton have hardly set the world alight since returning to the Premier League. Their 5-1 defeat to Chelsea was an example of their shortcomings this season.

Dibbing was not available for that game due to suspension, however has been the clear standout player for the Saints this season.

Manager Russell Martin has described him as ‘excellent’ this season, and there will likely be interest from sides like Chelsea if Southampton are relegated at the end of this campaign.
