Manchester United are reportedly behind Chelsea in the race to secure the services of 20-year-old US Lecce whizkid Patrick Dorgu, with Tottenham also interested in him.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Patrick Dorgu is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on landing the US Lecce whizkid, who will cost around €40 million in the 2025 summer transfer window. However, the Blues are the front-runners to sign the Danish international from the Serie A club next year.
The rise of Patrick Dorgu
Patrick Dorgu has seen his stock soar since joining US Lecce from Nordsjaelland. The Serie A club initially signed the Dane on loan in July 2022 before completing a permanent move 12 months later. The youngster has gone from strength to strength in the last two and a half years, excelling in multiple positions.
While the 20-year-old started as a left-back, he has also played as a winger for US Lecce this season. Dorgu has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for the Serie A club while chipping in with five goals and one assist. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Premier League heavyweights like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
A man in demand
Chelsea and Tottenham mulled over signing the Danish international in the summer transfer window before the move failed to see the light of day. The West London outfit can do with a player like Dorgu, considering he will add to Enzo Maresca’s options in the left-back unit and the flanks.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Patrick Dorgu is understandable. The North London giants need a top-notch alternative to Destiny Udogie, especially with Ben Davies facing an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As for Manchester United, Dorgu can be a top-class addition to the left-back unit amid the fitness woes of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Shaw has picked up another injury that will keep him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. However, Manchester United are behind Chelsea in the race to secure the services of the Danish international, with the Blues the front-runners to land his signature.
Meanwhile, US Lecce will demand around €40 million to part ways with the 20-year-old Dane, although a move will not see the light of day in the January transfer window. Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham should have the funds to meet the Serie A club’s valuation.
