Amazon apologise to Slot over referee claims

Arne Slot has received an apology over incorrect claims he entered the referees’ room during Liverpool’s draw with Newcastle.

Wednesday’s six-goal thriller at St James’ Park saw the Premier League leaders’ advantage cut down to seven points after the hosts’ late equaliser.

But Amazon Prime presenter Dan Walker alleged Slot approached match official Andy Madley at the interval during their live coverage of the game.

The Magpies’ manager refused to discuss the claim, describing it as ‘a can of worms I shouldn’t open’ when interviewed after the midweek stalemate.

It has now emerged that Slot did speak to Madley ahead of the start of the second half in the North East but only in the tunnel area before the restart.

Amazon Prime have now apologised to both the Dutchman and the Reds for the errnoneous claim, with club officials believing the matter to be closed.

The streaming service will be a visible presence at Anfield later this month for Liverpool’s late-evening league clash with Leicester City on Boxing Day.

They previously broadcast a Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen last month as one of their selected picks from this season’s league phase.
