A video that shows Pep Guardiola reacting angrily to a taunt from a soccer fan is doing the rounds on social media, but it appears that the footage is actually from after last season's FA Cup final, when Manchester United beat Manchester City at Wembley.
In the footage, Guardiola — wearing the suit he wore during the final in May — can be seen walking down a street in Salford, when somebody says: "F------ hell, mate, just because you lost." Guardiola quickly turns around to confront the fan, only to be held back by his entourage.
Though the video is apparently from earlier this year, it had been suggested on social media platform X that the video was new, and had been recorded in the midst of City's poor recent run of form.
City ended a seven-match winless run on Wednesday when Guardiola's men recorded a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest; prior to that win, City had lost six games and drawn one. Liverpool's draw with Newcastle on the same night allowed City, Arsenal and Chelsea all to narrow the gap to the league leaders, with all three teams recording wins during the midweek round of fixtures.
Liverpool will have the chance to extend its lead at the top of the table to 10 points — temporarily, at least — when the Reds take on Everton at Goodison Park in Saturday's early kick-off. It will be Arne Slot's first taste of the Merseyside derby and he was asked what he expected from the game during a press conference on Friday.
"I think it’s going to be special for everyone — for all the fans that are involved, for all the players that are involved and as well for the managers," Slot said. "To be part of this game is already special and to be part of the last one at Goodison Park probably makes it even more special. But it’s only a nice experience if the result goes your way. That is what we are focusing on most for this game."
