Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted there is "no rush" for Leicester to sign any new players in January despite being linked with a host of Manchester United stars.

Van Nistelrooy left Old Trafford last month following Ruben Amorim's decision not to keep him as part of his United new backroom staff. The Dutchman, 48, had spent a short time as interim head coach after the sacking of Erik ten Hag, winning three and drawing one his four matches in charge.

Having spent a short time out of work, Van Nistelrooy returned to the dugout earlier this week after Leicester appointed him as their new manager. The former United forward won his first game at the helm, a 3-1 win over West Ham which moved the Foxes four points clear of the drop zone.

It has been a positive start to life at the King Power Stadium for Van Nistelrooy, but there has already been plenty of talk surrounding his potential January transfer plans. Reports suggested on Friday that Van Nistelrooy could raid United to sign Toby Collyer on loan, while others have also been linked.

But speaking ahead of Leicester's clash with Brighton on Sunday, Van Nistelrooy admitted Leicester are in "no rush" to strengthen their squad amid those links with United players.

Issuing his verdict on potential transfer business, Van Nistelrooy said: "We had a conversation about that in London before I signed. We spoke about that, the winter window, and also towards the summer.

"We also said that there’s no rush to do things. The squad there now is getting opportunities to prove themselves over this month. There’s time after that to make a good assessment, when I’ve seen the players with my own eyes."

Leicester had a net spend of £46million over the recent summer transfer window, losing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea for £30m but signing the likes of Oliver Skipp, Bilal El Khannous, Bobby Decordova-Reid, Jordan Ayew, Caleb Akoli and Abdul Fatawu, who joined on a permanent deal from Sporting CP.

Despite this, there has been some worry over Leicester's financial position, although Van Nistelrooy has reassured that there will be some cash available. Asked if there was money to spend, it was a simple answer: "Yes".
