Lopetegui Crisis | Groundhog Day At West Ham

Until Tim Steidten and David Sullivan can agree on a replacement, Julen Lopetegui survives for the next in his series of never ending series of ‘must-win’ games. West Ham spiral downwards, player unrest means several have vowed to leave if Lopetegui remains and Jean-Clair Todibo apparently has as much chance of being selected for the first team as I do.

Today we hear reports that three ‘European’ coaches have all been offered to West Ham : footmercato.net claim that “Christophe Galtier, Maurizio Sarri and Massimiliano Allegri were offered to West Ham.”

Sarri and Allegri are out of work and available – Allegri reportedly seeking a whacking £6 million a year salarywhich would tend to rule him out! The same article confirms that Steidten, apparently, has preferences for a German coach whilst Sullivan wants an English one after the Lopetegui disaster.

Claret and Hugh’s associate editor Sean Whetstone’s article this morning does confirm that the club have indeed had contact with ‘Graham Potter’s people” which would tend to indicate he is Sullivan’s ‘British manager’ choice. ( And by the way no short-term contract offer has been made or rejected).

No doubt negotiations are still happening behind the scenes. With the earlier report today suggesting Terzic has rejected a move to West Ham, one of Steidtens’ preferred candidates has ruled himself out.

The result of all of this is inactivity. Tim Steidten, appointed as Director of Football on the say so of shareholder Kretinsky wants to go in one direction and Chairman David Sullivan wants to go in another. Groundhog Day at West Ham.
