Man Utd and Chelsea linked with Borussia Dortmund 'difference maker'

Manchester United and Chelsea are among the sides reported to have taken an interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha.

The 24-year-old joined Dortmund for €30m in the summer of 2023 but struggled with a hip injury that restricted him to just ten Bundesliga starts in his debut season. However, now fit and playing in a deeper midfield role under new manager Nuri Sahin, the Germany international is beginning to show his best form once again.

Compared to Jude Bellingham for his goalscoring ability from deep, Nmecha has two goals and an assist in seven starts this season, and BILD state that form has caught the eye of a number of the Premier League's elite.

Indeed, scouts from Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United are reported to have travelled to watch Nmecha in action against Bayern Munich. The midfielder held his own in a tense 1-1 draw.

Perhaps working in Nmecha's favour with the Premier League sides is his status as a homegrown player. Both Felix and brother Lukas came through the Manchester City academy following a family move to England and Felix, the younger of the two, made three appearances for the senior side before being released in 2021.

He would go on to join VfL Wolfsburg and enjoyed a stellar 2022/23 season, attracting the interest from Borussia Dortmund, who began the process of converting Nmecha from an attacking midfielder to more of a box-to-box threat.

"We had in mind that he could become a number six one day," said Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken. "He has now taken these steps quickly under Nuri. "He got his chance and then took it. In his form, with his size, his speed, he is a difference maker!"
