Talking football transfers and loans, just for one second, when all of the headlines are about [Julen Lopetegui’](https://www.claretandhugh.info/the-shocking-omission-from-lopeteguis-west-hams-mandate/)s ‘must win’ game and possible Monday night exit from London Stadium – is almost a refreshing change.
Many of Julen Lopetegui’s decisions are now being looked at through different perspectives: Nayef Aguerd in hindsight was an awful decision: In view of the abject failure of West Ham’s midfield, other loanees might well bolster the squad if they can be recalled.
As far as I was aware, the loan agreements we made were for the whole season: Certainly for Nayef Aguerd and James Ward-Prowse I still thank that is the case: From reports today, one of our ‘up and coming’ crop of youngsters might well be available – from comments made, his loan club think that West Ham can recall him.
Freddie Potts, on loan at Championship side Portsmouth, has impressed all with his combative midfield work – including his manager John Mousino. Quoted just yesterday in Portsmouth publication Portsmouth.co.uk, Pompey’s manager stated he expected Potts to stay as _“_I’ve heard nothing to the contrary, so we’ll have Freddie for the season.” Er – hold on, does that mean _there is an option_ to recall Potts to West Ham in January?
With Guido Rodriguez desperate to leave, Edson Alvarez unhappy at playing under Lopetegui and Lucas Paquetá under a black cloud with zero form and an FA enquiry in March, might it not make sense to bring Freddie Potts back in January to provide some pace and youth for West Ham’s midfield options? Especially if a new coach is more positive about integrating youth into our squad.
