Arsenal and Manchester City handed blow in their pursuit of 20-year-old Premier League…

Arsenal and Manchester City have received a setback in their pursuit of Adam Wharton as Crystal Palace are not ready to sell.

According to a report from Football Insider, Crystal Palace won’t entertain any offers for the services of Adam Wharton at the turn of the calendar amidst interest in his services from Manchester City and Arsenal. The Premier League giants might be forced to look at alternatives because of the Eagles’ firm stance on the future of the English international.

Wharton was already a big name in English football coming up the ranks at Blackburn. His impressive performances for their first team further enhanced his reputation and he ended up securing a move to the top flight at the start of the year.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder established himself in the Crystal Palace first-team in no time. His instant impact helped him break into the English national team and he was even a part of the squad for Euro 2024.

Palace won’t sell Wharton in January

Wharton is considered an important part of their senior side and they are not looking to negotiate the departure of the former Blackburn star whose contract runs until the summer of 2029.

The Eagles are currently battling relegation as they find themselves 17th on the points table, they are hoping their versatile midfielder could help them survive the drop once he recovers from the Groin injury and is back in action.

Palace are aware of the fact that City and Arsenal are both keen on his signature. But, they won’t entertain offers from either club in the new year. Pep Guardiola’s team see him as an ideal cover for the injured Rodri as well as a long-term replacement for the Spanish international.

Meanwhile, the Gunners look at him as someone who can help them replace ageing midfield stars Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Both clubs have kept a close eye on the 20-year-old and they are quite impressed with what they have seen. While they will look to strike a deal for him at the start of 2025, it is very unlikely as the Eagles believe Wharton could be key to their survival in the top flight.
