Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion: Possible Line-ups

The possible line-ups are derived from previous match days. We take into consideration how strong the opponents are, what players are injured and of course team news before the match.

Team News Chelsea

Head coach Sonia Bompastor had a positive squad update this week: “We still have two training sessions before the game on Sunday – this morning and tomorrow morning,” our head coach replied. “We are still assessing some players from the international break, but almost all the squad should be available,” she said.

Maika Hamano was unwell but is feeling fine now. The medical staff will assess her before the match against Brighton. Lauren James her return is taking longer that Bompastor hoped: “LJ is progressing really well with her rehab. She’s in a good position mentally. I think it will be difficult to see LJ before the end of the year, but we still have a small hope of that. We’ll see but I’m more expecting her to play with us in January.”

Niamh Charles was recovering from a shoulder injury for quite some time, but she is ready for the game this weekend: “Niamh was almost ready for the Manchester United game before the international window, but we didn’t want to take any risk especially because we were in a position where she had two more weeks to build. She’s completely fit now and she’s ready to be in the squad.”

The head coach also gave an update on Sam Kerr. The Australian international is not expected to return until February/March. She is still in individual training.

What the coach has to say

Sonia Bompastor has a winstreak to maintain against Brighton & Hove Albion. When asked about her thoughts on the game this weekend, Bompastor said: “Brighton started really good this season, really strong good results, except for the game against Arsenal but that’s the only one they conceded that many goals. But I think they have a team and a squad that have a lot of experience. They had great results, and they are in a good dynamic. So, we expect a hard game for us. We play home with our fans but of course it will be difficult. We need to perform at our best to make sure we have the chance to win on Sunday.”

Team News Brighton & Hove Albion

Dario Vidošić squad update: “Fran (Kirby) is out. She won’t be us for the next few games until the new year, which is disappointing. Everyone else sort of returned in good condition thankfully they were all okay.” The head coach confirmed there is no one back yet.

What the coach has to say:

Dario Vidošić is looking forward to the tough clash with Chelsea this weekend.

“It’s a process of ours where we’re focusing on ourselves and what we want to do. It’s a beautiful challenge that we’ve got, going into the very long-time reigning champions. They’ve not lost the game this season. They haven’t conceded many goals as well. So we’re just looking for a better performance from ourselves, from when we have been challenged with these big games,” he explained.

How does he hope to take home three points against The Blues? “We want to be there from the first whistle. Play the best we possibly can. Hopefully play the best game that we’ve played all season. And then at the end, the result, we’ll see what that is at the end of the game.”
