Everton are prioritising strengthening the defence in the January transfer window, according to the I.
The news outlet reported on 6 December that plans are already underway for the signings in the summer and The Friedkin Group’s takeover will give efforts extra urgency.
However, even with the wealth of the American owners, PSR still remains an issue for the club.
Everton need to strengthen their defence
The Toffees desperately need a defender given how porous they have been at the back this season.
That said, given Sean Dyche’s use of Jake O’Brien and the club’s massive outlay in the summer, it raises questions as to whether he’s the right man for the new signings.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
While Michael Keane has been decent, signing another centre-back for huge money only to be the fourth choice makes no sense.
It remains to be seen what the club’s plans are in January and whether Dyche is even consulted for the new signings.
A decision needs to be made over his future and if he’s not going to be there next season, there is no point in getting the players he wants.

Hopefully, The Friedkin Group can clear up all these doubts when the takeover does get sanctioned.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche was “furious” at a Toffees player even though he made the headlines for the right reasons v Wolves.
