Arsenal face Liverpool competition to sign perfect £65m star to unleash Martin Odegaard

Paris Saint-Germain will demand roughly £65m if they are to sell Xavi Simons next summer - with Arsenal one of several Premier League sides linked with a move for the Netherlands international.

The 21-year-old joined PSG from Barcelona in 2019, but he made just 11 first-team appearances before signing with PSV Eindhoven in 2022. PSG, though, activated a buy-back clause in the deal, and brought the forward back to the French capital just 12 months later, after a stellar campaign in Holland.

But Simons has been loaned out to German side RB Leipzig over the last two seasons, where he has impressed in totting-up 30 goals and assists in just 54 outings for the Bundesliga outfit.

However, reports from The Athletic indicate that Simons could make a permanent transfer away from the Parc des Princes next summer as it is said there is "no indication of him looking to sign a new deal" and, therefore, could lead PSG to sanctioning a sale.

The report adds that Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Real Madrid are seen as the "most probable destinations", although PSG are expected to want a minimum of £65m.

Manchester United, at a previous juncture, have also been linked with the highly-rated Dutchman.

Simons has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal with PSG. Capped 24 times by the Netherlands with three international goals to his name, Simons can operate in a number of positions.

It might be, then, in the case of the Gunners that he could dovetail neatly with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, while also providing cover in attacking quarters. Simons is currently side-lined with an ankle injury and that has, so far, restricted his overall impact this season.
