Oliver Glasner says it makes no sense for Odsonne Edouard to come back to Crystal Palace in the January transfer window as the French striker is failing to have an impact at Premier League rivals Leicester City.
Ex-Celtic striker Edouard joined the Foxes on a season-long loan in the summer window and penned a new deal until the end of the 2026-27 campaign with Palace before leaving.
However, the 26-year-old has made just six appearances since joining at the King Power and was left out of Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s very first Leicester squad for their 3-1 win over West Ham in midweek.
A report emerged during the week that the Foxes were considering cancelling Edouard’s loan deal in the upcoming transfer window.
“We always follow our loan players,” said Glasner.
“This week, with three games, it’s not my highest priority to think about Odsonne.
“I don’t know about the contract details. It makes no sense from our side to bring him back. If he doesn’t play for Leicester, why should he play for Crystal Palace?
“It was the same situation in the summer. He decided that maybe he would get more minutes there. We explained the situation to him.
“It is up to him and his agent. If he doesn’t get the minutes there, maybe it’s about finding another loan.
“We won’t say: ‘Come back. Come back. Come back, and then he will play’.
“It’s all about competition and performances. If you make a loan deal, it’s clear what every party wants.
“Leicester want a good player to help them win games. Odsonne wants minutes to improve his performance and score goals.
“For us, it’s so that when he comes back, he’s in a better situation than when he left.
“He didn’t get many minutes there, so I think the situation is even worse when he comes back.
“It makes no sense.”
