Manchester City are no strangers when it comes to being inked with transfer moves for some of the best players in Europe.
For instance, one player City have been linked with in recent months is Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala.
Specifically, it was reported by The Guardian back in that Musiala is of interest to Pep Guardiola.
However, despite not landing a deal for him in the previous summer transfer window, City could still sign Musiala if he decides to not sign a new contract at Bayern as his current deal is set to expire in 2026.
Recently, it was claimed by Sky Sports Germany that Bayern are looking to offer a financially lucrative new contract to keep him at the club, although Musiala will make a decision about his future in the upcoming Bundesliga winter break.
Now though, a key figure behind the scenes at the German club has spoken out about what the current situation is concerning the 21-year-old and his future.

Lothar Matthaus claimed Pep Guardiola could play a key role in City’s Musiala chase
Having spent some time in Chelsea’s youth ranks, Musiala joined Bayern back in the 2019 summer transfer window and has gone on to establish himself as not only a key player for the club but one of the best young players in the world.

Last month saw one former Bayern star speak out about what advantage City could have to sign Musiala, as Lothar Matthaus said this on the matter.
He said: “Musiala was trained in England, but he is in great hands at Bayern and is already an ambassador for the club.
“Nevertheless, I am not sure that his advisors will receive many calls from interested clubs. This is where Pep Guardiola’s extension at Manchester City could still be important.
“He wants to write the next era and needs fresh blood to do so, because Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, two key players in midfield, are retiring in the long term.
“That is why I can imagine that he and City will fully enter the poker game for Musiala and Florian Wirtz. Pep is already a myth.
“And what we must not forget: City brought in Josko Gvardiol from Leipzig for €91.5m (£77m). That shows how the ratios are: if City are serious, they can pay insane amounts.”
Moving forward, Musiala’s contract situation is certainly something City should be keeping their eyes on in case an opportunity to bring the German international to the Etihad Stadium arises at any point.
