“I think” – Fabrizio Romano makes Chelsea January transfer window prediction

Fabrizio Romano believes Cesare Casadei will be the most likely midfield player to leave Chelsea in January, whilst Carney Chukwuemeka could also leave.

The Blues have made a strong start to the season and sit second after beating Southampton on Wednesday night, seven points behind leaders Liverpool.

Enzo Maresca’s side have certainly exceeded expectations and are currently in a position no one would have expected them to be in.

Romano feels Casadei most likely midfielder to leave in January

Casadaei joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in 2022 for an initial fee of £12.6m, but has struggled to establish himself in the first team picture on a regular basis.

The Italian has had loan spells at Reading and Leicester and revealed in the summer it was his choice to remain at Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has yet to appear in the Premier League this season and has started just three games all season, two in the Conference League and one in the Carabao Cup against Barrow.

Casadei is unlikely to feature for the Blues until the game against Shamrock Rovers on December 19th as he’s suspended for the Conference League game against Astana next week having been sent off against Heidenheim.

The Italy U21 international is behind the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the pecking order and truth be told it’s very unlikely he’s got a long term future at the club, especially with Andrey Santos retuning next summer.

Casadei has been linked with a number of clubs, most recently Dutch side Feyenoord and Romano believes he’s the most likely midfielder to leave Chelsea in January.

“I think the midfielder who will leave Chelsea in the January window is, in my information and opinion, is Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka could also leave,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Chukwuemeka hasn’t played a single minute in the Premier League or started a game all season, with his days at the club very much numbered, but it could be more difficult to find a solution for him compared to Casadei.
