Bruno Guimaraes is attracting interest from Manchester City but the midfielder hopes to make “many more” appearances for Newcastle United.
Man City are looking to bolster their midfield with star man Rodri likely to miss the rest of the campaign and Mateo Kovavic also currently sidelined. As per Mail Sport, the Premier League champions have drawn up a shortlist and Pep Guardiola has insisted on Guimaraes’ inclusion.
Guimaraes has long been admired by Guardiola, who recently signed a new contract at the Etihad until 2026. The interest existed in the summer but the Citizens opted against triggering his £100million, which was valid until the end of June.

It’s claimed City could test the Magpies’ resolve, be that in January or the summer. While head coach Eddie Howe would meet any potential bid with resistance, a big sale would give Newcastle more spending power in the transfer market in line with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability (PSR).
But there is nothing to suggest Howe and the player himself is thinking about leaving St James’ Park. The 27-year-old made his 100th Premier League appearance against Liverpool in midweek.
Reacting on social media, Guimaraes wrote: “100 games with this shirt in the Premier League. I couldn’t be prouder. Here’s to many more!”
Guimaraes has made 124 appearances for Newcastle since arriving from Lyon for £40million in January 2022, where his opening 18 months coincided with the club’s rise from battling relegation to qualifying for the Champions League.
Having quickly established himself as firm favourite, both on and off the pitch, Guimaraes joined the player leadership group in the summer and was voted as captain.
“I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect,” said Guimaraes last month. “I am the captain of Newcastle and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.

“Of course, having Manchester City's suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions. I know that [Pep] Guardiola likes my football, it is normal to have great coaches who admire your football.
“We have spoken once after the interview, I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that.”
