Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool set to battle for Portuguese teenage sensation’s signature: Reports

Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are prepared to battle for the signature of Portuguese teenage sensation Martim Fernandes, according to TBR Football (via Hard Tackle). The Valongo-born 18-year-old was in the UD Valonguense academy, before being courted by Porto's academy. He now plays for the Portuguese giants, having broken into their B team in 2022.

His quality impressed the former first-team manager Sergio Conceicao, who eventually handed him his first-team debut. This season, he has played 17 games across all competitions, providing four assists.

Fernandes' quality has been recognized by a number of teams in the Premier League, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool working towards signing him. The Gunners are looking to add young talent to their defensive backline, and signing the 18-year-old right-back could be a step in that direction.

The case is a bit different for the Reds, who could see Trent Alexander-Arnold potentially leave the club when his contract expires in the summer of 2025. While they have Conor Bradley to take over from the vice-captain if it comes down to it, they would need a backup right-back, and Fernandes fits the bill.

The Blues, on the other hand, have had a frustrating situation with their captain Reece James. The 24-year-old has spent the last two years dealing with regular hamstring injuries. He has made just 35 appearances in all competitions across the last two seasons. The club will need to find a solution to their right-back woes, and they view Fernandes as an option.

Supercomputer predicts title race, as Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea lead Premier League rankings

Opta's supercomputer has predicted the Premier League title race (via 90min), as Liverpool lead the rankings with a seven-point gap over Chelsea and Arsenal. The Reds are currently at the top with 35 points after a 3-3 draw to Newcastle United at St. James' Park on December 4.

The Blues are in second place with 28 points after an impressive 5-1 win over relegation candidates Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium on the same day. Despite being on the same points, they have a superior goal difference over the Gunners, who beat Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates.

Opta's supercomputer has given Liverpool a huge 80.9% chance of running away with the Premier League title. They face Everton today (December 7) in their Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, where three points could help them along the way.

Arsenal have been given a 12.5 percent chance of winning the league title. Despite being in second place, Chelsea have only a 1 percent chance, with fourth-placed Manchester City getting a 5.5 percent chance.
