Paperwork done: Chelsea secure Watford FC transfer agreement

Key Takeaways

Chelsea sign Mathis Eboue, exciting young attacker from Watford - eyeing long-term potential.

Eboue played with an older age group at Watford and has already represented England U16s.

Joining Chelsea, Eboue becomes part of the Blues' Vision 30 project.

Chelsea have completed a deal to sign exciting attacker, Mathis Eboue, from Watford, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The 15-year-old is the son of former Arsenal player, Emmaunel Eboue. He will link up with the fierce rivals of his Dad's former employer after completing a deal at Stamford Bridge.

World-renowned journalist, Romano, reported that the necessary paperwork to complete the deal has been finalised. The Premier League giants view Eboue as another long-term project in their exciting academy.

Thanks to his performance, the attacker has been playing in a higher age group at Watford, where he caught the eye on plenty of occasions.

The son of the former Arsenal defender, Emmaunel, has already represented England at Under-16s level, netting the winner in the young Lions' 1-0 victory over France, which secured them U16 Challenge Trophy in October.

It's a proud moment for the Eboue family, as Mathis begins to follow in the footsteps of his father. The former Gunners favourite told the Watford Observer that his son could've joined Chelsea when he was younger.

“He had two choices, Chelsea and Arsenal," Eboue stated.

“I didn't tell him anything. I said: Mathis, it's up to you. It doesn't matter where, I want you to be happy."

Ultimately, Mathis chose his father's former side. However, after leaving Arsenal and excelling at Watford, he eventually opted to join Chelsea.

Eboue isn't the first player that the Blues have stolen away from another club's academy, and it's highly unlikely he'll be the last.

Chelsea have been known for poaching young wonderkids, especially under the stewardship of Todd Boehly. This is thanks to the ‘Vision 30’ project. This involves Chelsea scouting and recruiting some of the best young talents in world football in order to improve the Blues’ academy and eventually integrate them into the first-team.

The London club has splashed the cash on plenty of exciting academy products in recent times, such as Zak Sturge, and Shim Mheuka from Brighton. The latter was signed for a mouthwatering £1m, which could rise to £4.25m in the future, at the age of just 14.

Eboue will be hopeful that he can excel once again in the Chelsea academy, continuing his growth in one of the best places for young players in the world. However, with so many talented players in their ranks, it will be no easy ride for the 15-year-old.
