'Tremendous': Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have a young talent who 'gives us something very different'

Arsenal are in fine form at the minute and making their presence felt in the Premier League title race.

Since the Premier League resumed after the November international break, the Gunners have won all of three of their top-flight games.

In addition, Arsenal also recorded a statement Champions League win against a Sporting Lisbon side that was previously nigh-on unbeatable at home.

When Arsenal have all of their top players available, they are a force to be reckoned with, and one player in particular has made a huge difference compared to last season.

Jurrien Timber sadly sat out most of last term due to an ACL injury but he’s been in fine form this season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking ahead of the trip to Fulham, explained why he has been “really impressed” by the Dutchman.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hails ‘tremendous’ Jurrien Timber

Arteta, speaking to the Arsenal media team, said Timber “gives us something very different” compared to the squad’s other full-backs.

He also lauded the 23-year-old “tremendous” impact and how well he has done amid to bounce back from one of the worst injuries a footballer can suffer.

“I’m really impressed,” Arteta said when asked about Timber’s growth. “He’s coming from a long-term injury after his ACL.

“We knew the talent, the leadership, the skill he has, it’s been in great form.

“He gives us something very different to any other full-back we have in the team and his impact has been tremendous, I think.”

Arteta’s emphatic Timber prediction

Earlier this season, Arteta said Timber is still nowhere near his very best and can become so much better as a footballer.

The Dutchman has so many more levels he can reach as he continues to develop as a player, said the Arsenal boss.

When Arsenal’s media team asked Arteta about Timber’s form, he replied: “Yes, and that level as well.

“We know what he can produce, he’s a player with exceptional qualities, a lot of leadership.

“You see the courage, and the intention and purpose that he plays with. That’s very contagious.

“He’s a player that still has many layers and levels to go so I’m very happy to have him.”
