Everton vs Liverpool postponed amid Storm Darragh impact as Man City watch on in title race

The showdown at Goodison Park is OFF.

Liverpool are not in action this weekend after their derby meeting was postponed.

The Premier League clash between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park has been postponed owing to severe weather conditions. The game, initially scheduled for a 12.30pm kick-off and set to be broadcast live on TNT Sports, has been called off due to concerns over safety following the impact of Storm Darragh.

The storm brought with it an amber weather warning from the Met Office, predicting gusts of up to 70mph in inland areas of Merseyside, along with heavy downpours. As a result, Merseyside police advised against non-essential travel during the worst of the weather, leading to the decision to postpone the match.

Everton released a statement explaining the decision: "Everton's Premier League fixture against Liverpool, scheduled for 12.30pm (GMT) today, Saturday 7 December, has been postponed."

The statement continued: "Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park, attended by officials from both clubs, as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council this morning, it was decided that, due to the risk to safety in the local area due to strong wind gusts, and an amber severe wind warning that remains in place until 6am on Sunday, today's fixture should be postponed on safety grounds."

The club apologised for the inconvenience and thanked supporters for their understanding, emphasising that the safety of fans, staff, and players is of utmost importance. "Information relating to a rearranged date for the fixture will be announced in due course.

"All tickets purchased for the original fixture will remain valid for the rearranged fixture."

Alongside the Merseyside derby, several other football matches have been affected by these adverse weather conditions. Cardiff City's encounter with Watford and Plymouth Argyle's match against Watford have both been postponed due to Storm Darragh, resulting in all games in Wales being called off.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Chelsea are poised to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool if they can grab victories in their upcoming games. On the other hand, Manchester City bounced back with a win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday and could narrow Liverpool's lead to six points with a triumph at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
