West Ham's season thrown into disarray as new Tim Steidten claim comes to light

Tim Steidten was brought to West Ham United by David Sullivan in the summer of 2023.

West Ham appointed Tim Steidten as the new director of football, and the fans were really excited to see what the ‘pearl diver’ had in store for us.

However, I would think that David Sullivan has been fairly disappointed with the 45-year-old German’s performance so far.

It was recently claimed that Tim Steidten is under real pressure at West Ham, as well as Julen Lopetegui of course.

It could be argued that the only unmitigated success so far out of the former Bayer Leverkusen man’s vast array of signings has been Mohammed Kudus.

And let’s be honest here, anyone with the slightest ounce of knowledge about the game could have recomended him to the Hammers owners!

Steidten’s role is under real scrutiny now, and it appears as though he’s at loggerheads with Sullivan.

Steidten hasn’t lived up to expectations since moving to the London Stadium.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

That’s my opinion – I just expected him to bring in so many more undiscovered gems.

His signings have been far too ‘safe’ for my likings, but the irony of it all is that those type of signings have ended up being really costly for us.

Niclas Fullkrug and Konstantinos Mavropanos are two perfect examples of this.

And now Steidten is apparently butting heads with Sullivan behind the scenes.

That’s because the director of football wants a German coach to replace Lopetegui whilst the Hammers supremo wants and Englishman, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

It’s not great that two vitally important figures at the club are pulling in such different directions.

There is clearly so much turmoil at the club right now, and perhaps the disagreement between David Sullivan and Tim Steidten is the real reason why Lopetegui is still in the job.

If a replacement can’t be agreed upon, the Spaniard may well be giving more time to impress.

However, well all know that time is borrowed, and I’m sure there will be a managerial change at the London Stadium sooner rather than later.
