Aston Villa vs Southampton is on course to go ahead despite concerns of a postponement due to Storm Darragh.
High winds and heavy rain are battering Birmingham this morning but Aston Villa’s Premier League clash with Southampton is unlikely to be postponed.
There’s of course no guarantee the game will still take place with the weather due to progressively worsen into the afternoon, but the conditions aren’t as severe as in the northwest of England.
Liverpool vs Everton has been officially postponed due to concerns over safety caused by the adverse weather conditions. The Merseyside region has seen wind gusts of around 60-65mph throughout the course of this morning, as per the Met Office.
The latest forecast in Birmingham suggests the current wind gusts are around 50-55mph until midday, with the speed rising to between 60-65mph from 12pm until 6pm. The heavy rain is set to continue until about 4pm, just after Villa’s kick-off time of 3pm.
Villa have released a statement implying there are no plans to postpone the match. It reads: “We want to advise all supporters to allow extra time for travel to today’s game due to poor weather conditions across the country.
“Please take extra care and stay safe. We look forward to seeing you at the game.”
Any updates will be published in due course.
