Newcastle United fans have made the journey to London despite disruptions from Storm Darragh.

United have sold 1,730 tickets for the clash at the GTech Stadium in the capital this afternoon in the Premier League with many using the Lumo and LNER train services.

The Magpies take on Brentford in London today with train services from Newcastle Central moving fine, albeit a five minute delay on the 7.12am Lumo service which left at 7.26am. Passengers were warned at Central Station via message boards: "Due to Storm Darragh please take extra care when moving around the station in severe weather."

Toon supporters learned early in the journey from Newcastle that the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Everton, the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park had been postponed due to the bad weather. A Premier League spokesman said: "Today’s Premier League match between Everton and Liverpool has been postponed due to safety concerns caused by the adverse weather conditions. The rearrangement of the fixture will be announced in due course."

The weather worsened on the journey from Tyneside to the capital but Brentford vs Newcastle was set to go ahead, albeit in wet weather. BBC Weather presenter Simon King said: "While there has been a lot of focus on the red warning and dangerous winds, there will be some nervousness about the heavy rain we’ve had after recent flooding from Storm Bert in late November.

"Overnight, we saw heavy rain across Northern Ireland, Wales and the Midlands. For me at least, it sounded like buckets of water were being thrown at my bedroom window.

"Heavy rain is set to continue today, especially in south Wales where there is an amber weather warning until this evening. With 60-90mm of rain expected, there will be some localised flooding."
