Bompastor's admiration for Brighton, her big aim and plans to rotate

There are no easy games in the Women's Super League, says our head coach Sonia Bompastor, who is expecting an especially difficult encounter when we host a side she has a lot of admiration for.

The Blues return to WSL action following the international break hosting Brighton & Hove Albion at Kingsmeadow on Sunday afternoon.

On home turf, we will be looking to extend our winning run to nine league games from nine. We sit five points clear at the top of the table, but our head coach knows it will be a tall order to increase that as we face the third-placed Seagulls who have also enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign.

Dario Vidosic, who like Bompastor joined his club this summer, has led Brighton to five wins, one draw and two defeats this season, and his side's style of play has earned an admirer in the form of Bompastor.

'Brighton have started really good this season,' our head coach told the media in her press conference. 'They have had strong results, except the game against Arsenal \[5-0 loss\], but that's the only one they conceded that many goals.

'They are a team and a squad who have a lot of experience and experienced players. They have had great results and are in a good dynamic. We expect a hard game for us.

'It's always good to see managers and teams who have strong beliefs in their philosophy and their game model. Brighton is a team that really have confidence and they want to build up from the back line and the goalkeeper, which is something I really love as a manager.

'Even the game against Arsenal when they were losing by a number of goals, they were still trying to build up from the backline. I think it's good for the women's game to have this philosophy.

'We will see if they do the same against us. It's something I like as a manager - it's good to have confidence even when you don't always get the results and to stay with your philosophy. It's not always easy, but it's a strong mindset I like to see.'

Bompastor, who on Friday won the WSL Manager of the Month award for November, has guided the Blues to eight consecutive WSL wins, a streak that stands at 12 games across all competitions. The Blues are the only unbeaten team in the league.

And while she says it is her 'big aim' to try and win each of our games this season, in a league like the WSL, which she believes is the most competitive in the world, it will not be without its challenges.

'That is our big aim,' Bompastor said about the possibility of winning every WSL game this season. 'It's what we work hard for, but it will be difficult, for sure, because as you go everyone wants to beat you. The club is used to that.

'Every single game we want to have the mentality that we want to win every game, but we just make sure that we have a good game plan and we play the way we want. It will be difficult, but that's one of the things we want to achieve.'

'The WSL is competitive,' Bompastor added. 'The most competitive league in Europe, for sure, and probably in the world as well. Even if we are winning every game, it's not easy. It's tough.

'When you analyse the game, it doesn't just come like this. Coming from a league where Lyon was really dominating the league, it's really different here. You have to make sure you get everything right to have the three points.

'When you look at the other teams, there is a lot of talent and quality in the squads. It just shows Chelsea is doing well and in a good dynamic. We will see if we can maintain that level for the entire season.'

Our home clash against Brighton is our penultimate league fixture before the Christmas break, with a trip to Leicester next week scheduled in between our final UEFA Champions League group matches against FC Twente at home and Real Madrid away.

It is set to be a busy month, but one Bompastor is prepared for as she discussed her plans to rotate as and when required.

'As a manager, I already have the plans for the next four games,' she said. 'But, you never know what happens. So, that's plan A, and I also have plans B and C, depending on how the games go and how we are performing in these games.

'We have four games and we will have to rotate because we play home and away. It's important to involve everyone. It will also be the opportunity again for the young players to be involved, especially because some are performing and helping the team perform.'
